Indy Jazz Fest y Jazz en Dominicana presentan: La República Dominicana

Jazz en Dominicana ha recibido, por tercera ocasión, la invitación a participar en el Indy Jazz Fest. Ambas instituciones siguen con el más alto interés de celebrar el jazz por medio de unir a nuestras comunidades, artistas, académicos y entusiastas del jazz. En esta ocasión ha invitado a Jazz en Dominicana a ser co-participe del festival, presentando en su cartelera del domingo 15 de septiembre: Indy Jazz Fest & Jazz en Dominicana presentan: La República Dominicana

La presentación músico cultural será realizada el domingo 15 de septiembre en el auditorio de la Indianapolis Public Library. Donde la agrupación Pavel and Direct Contact (dirigida por el pianista dominicano, radicado en Indianapolis - Pavel Polanco-Safadit) y los músicos dominicanos: Javier Vargas y Miguel Montas; llevarán a los presentes, a través de un viaje musical, a visitar la rica herencia folclórica del país. Merengue, Pambiche, Bachata, Son, Palos, Gaga, Pri-Pri, Guloya, y otros ritmos autóctonos! El evento es de entrada gratuita. El auditorio tiene capacidad de +500 en confortables butacas y esta situado en 40 East Saint Clair Street.

Jazz en Dominicana has received, for third time, lan invitation to participate at Indy Jazz Fest. Both institutions continue their interest in celebrating jazz by uniting our communities, artists, academics and jazz enthusiasts. For this occasion, Jazz en Dominicana has been invited to be a co-host for the festival’s presentation on Sunday, September 15, billed as:Indy Jazz Fest & Jazz en Dominicana present: The Dominican Republic

The musical and cultural presentation will be held in the auditorium of the Indianapolis Public Library. Where Pavel and Direct Contact (directed by the Dominican pianist, based in Indianapolis - Pavel Polanco-Safadit) along with Dominican musicians: Javier Vargas and Miguel Montas; will take the audience on a musical voyage, visiting the rich folk heritage of the country. Merengue, Pambiche, Bachata, Son, Palos, Gaga, Pri-Pri, Guloya, and other native rhythms. The event is of free admission. The auditorium is located at 40 East Saint Clair Street.

Javier Vargas
Francisco Javier Vargas Heredia (Javielo) es guitarrista, compositor, arreglista, líder de banda y sobre todo educador. No proviene de una familia de músicos y comenzó tarde a estudiar formalmente. Su Tio Santiago Heredia, Guitarrista, Tresista y Pianista radicado en Boston fue su primera influencia musical, inicia con la Guitarra a los 15 años con esa fiebre del Rock que da a algunos a esa edad, pero no es hasta los 18 que ingresa al Conservatorio Nacional de Música. Estudió Guitarra Clásica y Música Popular, aquí hace su primer acercamiento a la guitarra jazz a través de Jacques Martinez. Es egresado de la carrera de Educación Musical de la UASD y de Professional Music con concentración en Jazz Composition & Performance en la prestigiosa Berklee College of Music de Boston. Es en la actualidad Director del programa de Música Popular y Folclórica del Conservatorio Nacional de Música (CNM), en la cual imparte la cátedra de Armonía Contemporánea, Arreglos y Composición; es el Director de la Orquesta de Jazz (Big Band) de la institución y de diversos ensembles que de ella se desprenden. Fue clave en traer al país el proyecto Berklee en Santo Domingo y su Programa de becas, que ha beneficiado a decenas de estudiantes con diversos tipos de becas y programas de estudios en Boston. Ha sido musico de varias agrupaciones y artistas locales y actualmente dirige su proyecto de Jazz Afro Dominicano -ATRE-, con el cual se presenta regularmente, y con el que está preparando su primera producción discográfica.

Miguel Montás (batería/percusión)
Miguel Angel Montás Mateo inició su carrera musical en el 1989, con una carrera de 30 anos y habiendo iniciado con el grupo Altamira Banda Show, con el cual recorrió Estados Unidos,Europa Sur y Centroamérica, entre otros. Luego pasa a formar parte de la banda del Maestro Jorge Taveras, con quien se inicio y se dio a conocer en el medio artístico del país. Hizo seminarios con Michel Camilo, Oscar Stagnaro, y Berklee en Santo Domingo.  Ha participado en numerosas grabaciones y conciertos en vivo siendo ganador de dos Latin Grammy con los álbumes del grupo Alfareros y Milly Quezada. Ha tocado con Willy Chirino, Tito Rojas, Grupo Nklabe, Ismael Miranda, Charlie Aponte,Tito Nieves, Roberto Blades, Jose Alberto El Canario, Andy Montañez, Luis Perico Ortiz, Arturo Sandoval, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Los Ilegales, Luís Días, Eddy Herrera, Cuco Valoy, Sergio Vargas, Víctor Waill, Ramón Orlando, Jerry Rivera, Santo Domingo Jazz Big Band, Sophy, Danny Rivera, Jose Antonio Molina, Sistema Temperado, Jandy Feliz, entre muchos más. Ha participado en diversos eventos, tales como: Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, Downtown Punta Cana Jazz Festival, Festival Presidente de la Música Latina, y el Festival OTI en España. Participo en el homenaje hecho por la Fania All Stars al gran johnny Pacheco, En la actualidad es el director musical del afamado salsero dominicano Alex Matos y músico de planta del popular programa Divertido con Jochy.

Javier Vargas
Francisco Javier Vargas Heredia (Javier Vargas) is a guitarist, composer, arranger, band leader and above all an educator. He does not come from a family of musicians and started his studies late. His Uncle Santiago Heredia, guitarist, tresista and pianist based in Boston was his first musical influence, he started with the guitar at age 15 resulting from the Rock fever that some have at that age, but it is not until he enters the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo that he starts formal studies in Classical Guitar and Popular Music. While there he makes his first approach to jazz guitar via his professor Jacques Martinez. He graduated in Music Education from Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, and Professional Music with a concentration in Jazz Composition & Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is currently the Director of the Popular and Folk Music program at the National Conservatory of Music (CNM), where he teaches Contemporary Harmony, Arrangements and Composition; is the Director of the Jazz Orchestra (Big Band) and of various ensembles that come from it. He was instrumental in bringing the Berklee in Santo Domingo project and its Scholarship Program to the country, which has benefited dozens of students with various types of scholarships and study programs in Boston. He has been a musician with several groups and local artists and currently leads his Afro-Dominican Jazz project -ATRE-, with which he regularly performs, and with which is preparing its first record production.

Miguel Montás (drums / percussion)
Miguel Angel Montás Mateo (Miguel Montas) began his musical career in 1989, a career spanning over 30 years since having started with the Altamira Banda Show group, with which he toured the United States, Europe, South and Central America. Later, he became part of Maestro Jorge Taveras´ band, with whom he started and became known as a top notch musician in the country. He did seminars with Michel Camilo, Oscar Stagnaro, and Berklee in Santo Domingo. He has participated in numerous recordings and live concerts being the winner of two Latin Grammy with the albums of the group Alfareros and Milly Quezada. He has played with Willy Chirino, Tito Rojas, Ismael Miranda, Tito Nieves, Roberto Blades, Jose Alberto El Canario, Luis Perico Ortiz, Arturo Sandoval, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Los Ilegales, Luís Días, Eddy Herrera, Cuco Valoy, Sergio Vargas, Ramón Orlando, the Santo Domingo Jazz Big Band, Sophy, Danny Rivera, and Jose Antonio Molina, amongst many others. He has participated in festivals, such as: Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, Downtown Punta Cana Jazz Festival, Presidente Latin Music Festival, and the OTI Festival in Spain. He also participated in the tribute made by the Fania All Stars to the great Johnny Pacheco. He is currently the musical director of the famous Dominican salsa artist Alex Matos and a musician of the highly rated TV program Divertido con Jochy.
